Ellie’s Pregnancy Journey with SureSlim

I was over the moon when I found out I was pregnant. Now that I had a new life growing inside me I wanted to do the best I possibly could to have a healthy baby. On my first visit to see the mid-wife, my weight was 9st 2lbs and I was told that I should put on between 2 and 2 ½ stone over the next 7 months, but they wouldn’t monitor this, and as long as I kept everything in moderation I wouldn’t go far wrong! I was left feeling a bit bewildered. I had friends who’d put on that much weight in the first few months of their pregnancy! I’d always been proud of my size 8 figure, and trained regularly to stay in shape – the thought of being a new mum, 2½ stone heavier and wearing shapeless maternity clothes didn’t thrill me – or my husband!

As the months went by, my tummy was gradually growing into a compact little bump; my midwife was really pleased with how my pregnancy was progressing but I was still wearing my size 8 hipster jeans! I was getting wolf whistles as I walked into work – you should’ve seen their embarrassed faces when they saw my bump! I was always getting complimented on how well I looked and how small and compact my bump was.
I didn’t need to bother with the baggy maternity clothes that I’d been dreading. A week before I went into labour I went to a friends engagement party wearing the size 10 outfit that I’d worn for my nephews christening a few years earlier. At this point my weight had gone up by exactly 2 stone.
My son, Geraint William, was born a few days early, at the end of June just 3½ hours after I’d gone to hospital, weighing a healthy 7lbs 8ozs. Within a week my weight had dropped by 16lbs to exactly 10st. Julie had advised me to just eat whatever I fancied for the first 6 weeks after giving birth – she said I would be too busy looking after my son to worry about my own diet, and as usual she was right! I was breastfeeding and the days (and nights) were just a blur of feeding and nappy changing with hours spent gazing in awe at my son.
